Although the federal government has announced funding for food security and non-profits, the unprecedented demand due to COVID19 continues to strain social supports. North York Harvest, whose Executive Director Ryan Noble is a TFPC member, noted a 42% increase in demand for emergency food.
“Ontario’s network of 58,000 non-profit organizations, which also includes arts, culture, recreation and sports organizations is asking Queen’s Park to help bridge a $680 million shortfall due to the health crisis.”
Non-profits have been essential in helping provide assistance to communities struggling during COVID19 but many are facing uncertainty with some closing their doors for good.
