Food and the Federal Election at the Next TFPC Meeting

Campaign season is well underway for the upcoming federal election on October 21, so the TFPC is excited to centre our next meeting on election issues and campaign platforms. Our October meeting is an informal meeting, usually reserved for TFPC internal coordination and planning, but because of the upcoming federal election, we feel it is important to continue the conversation on why food is an election issue.

We are excited to announce that our special guest will be Dr. Rod MacRae from York University (also the first staff lead for the TFPC from 1990-2000)! See Rod’s bio below. Rod will dive into important policy and election issues and how they relate to food. Some questions to consider:

• What is the federal government’s role in food policy?
• What is the recently announced National Food Policy for Canada?
• Where do the parties stand on food issues?
• Where do the parties stand on the role of food in adapting to and mitigating the effects of climate change?

The meeting is Wednesday, October 9th from 2:00 – 5:00 pm in Committee Room 4 at City Hall.

Rod MacRae, Associate Professor, Faculty of Environmental Studies, York University

Dr. Rod MacRae is a food policy analyst, focusing on programmes and policies to support the transition to health-promoting and sustainable food and agriculture systems. He is an associate professor at the Faculty of Environmental Studies, York University and was the first Co-ordinator of the TFPC.
