Toronto City Council Moving Forward on Poverty Reduction

December 3rd, 2019

“By 2035, Toronto is a city with opportunities for all: a leader in the collective pursuit of justice, fairness and equity. We want to be renowned as a city where everyone has access to good jobs, adequate income, stable housing, affordable transportation, nutritious food, and supportive services”

The above statement is the City of Toronto’s Poverty Reduction Strategy vision statement. At a council meeting on November 26, 2016, the 2019-2022 Term Action Plan was unanimously adopted.

The plan includes 17 recommendations to be achieved by 2035 which include, increasing access to affordable, nutritious, and culturally appropriate food; improving the quality of all affordable housing; increasing access to high-quality programs for children and youth; and making transit more affordable for low-income residents.
