Why COVID-19 is a food-security issue

Over the past few weeks, empty shelves and unusually long lines at grocery stores have made it even more challenging for Toronto’s most vulnerable populations to access food. 

Whether it is accessibility, income or mental health, panic buying hurts folks who do not have the means to wait in long lines or pay for large quantities of food all at one time. 

Provincial health authorities say that it is not necessary to stockpile and that people should buy their groceries as usual. During this time, it is important to limit your interaction with others, reduce the number of trips you need to take to the grocery store and support those who may need extra help.
